Early in my life I was
interested the in the visual arts. I got my first camera at the age of
10. My father was a English teacher and mother was a librarian at
Cal Arts. My family along
with photography teacher John Gray, from
Moorpark
Jr.
College
,
had a key role in inspiring me to get into photography seriously.
In 1988 I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from California
Institute of the Arts, in Santa Clarita Valley. My
teachers, John Divola, John Bach, Jo Ann Callis and Allen Sekula, spent
4 years helping me to perfect my work
with a artistic conceptual style and photographic technical
knowledge. |
Three months after graduating from Cal Arts, I moved to
Kauai
where living near the ocean became a constant source of inspiration. As
a boat captain for Napali Eco Adventures, the work provided years of
beautiful photo opportunities. These
experiences developed in me a love of the ocean, and ambition to have a
part in inspiring conservation by documenting its beauty and power. As
a full time professional photographer now I am focusing on bringing the
work to new levels and my 13 years on
Kauai
has helped me document a great collection of moments. I shoot on film
and scan, for the ultimate in image sharpness, clarity and color
accuracy. My cameras are
Nikon 35mm F-3 HP, and F100. My
lenses are Nikon, 15mm through 500mm.
I do all the custom color printing, using my Nikon 4000 film
scanner and an Epson Stylus Photo 2200 archival printer.
The Nikon 4000 scanner allows me to make 20”x40”, 30”x50”
large, sharp Giclee prints
from 35mm film. The 8x10
prints are printed on Epson enhanced matte paper. They are fade
resistant and water resistant. The
Giclee prints are printed on canvas, sprayed with a U.V. sealant, stretched
and framed by Pictures Plus, similar to framing a painting. Favorite
film: Fujichrome Velvia, Provia and Kodak Supra 100 negative film.
Mahalo and Aloha…
